Shining the Spotlight on Windows

Windows are key features to any interior design project, but especially to projects undertaken in Hawaii. The views on our island are truly unmatched, and we love finding innovative and creative ways to frame these views by selecting the best windows and window treatments. This month we’re sharing some of our favorite projects that were transformed by unique windows.

Hinahina

As one of our most recently completed projects, Hinahina benefits from an upgraded color scheme, improved layout, and bright, inviting feel—thanks to the ample windows in the space! When tackling this comprehensive kitchen remodel, our team had a grand time thinking of the best ways to highlight such a prevalent feature throughout the space. We opted to play with difference valence designs in order to soak up the sun and let natural light filter through the kitchen. In the end we fitted the windows with Duralee odyssey smoke valences to tie the color scheme together and unify all sides of the kitchen. The valences are especially stunning as they decorate the bay window above the kitchen sink.

Turquoise Beach

With our Turquoise Beach project, our design team was working with short, wide windows that hung low to the kitchen countertop. This presented the challenge of positioning our new sink and faucet in a way that would allow clearance for the low hanging windows. In the end we successfully maneuvered the sink and faucet in order to clear the windows while emphasizing the simplistic beauty of their classic white plantation shutters.

Lanikai Blue

Our Lanikai Blue project was a full-scale kitchen remodel that provided us with an opportunity to rethink the existing structure of the space while thinking outside of the “walls.” We framed out the exterior wall of the kitchen to accommodate a built-in dining banquet, which gave us the chance to design the windows in a new, fresh way. We installed large venting windows just above the banquet to maximize cross ventilation and open up the room to bright, outdoor light and fresh air.

The Bay House

Sometimes the best ways to improve your home’s windows is to think beyond them! When working on our Bay House project, we were so struck by the breathtaking views of Kaneohe Bay and its sparkling blue waters that we opted instead for extended pocket doors situated throughout the living room and master bedroom. The simplicity and ease of pocket doors allows the homeowners to sit back, relax, and indulge in some of the most beautiful views on the island.

These are just a few noteworthy projects that reinvented the way our homeowners thought of windows and window treatments. For more advice on spicing up your space with the right window selections, give us a call at (808) 263-8891. We love sharing our insights with homeowners!
